Gabriel Sobers
Lagoon Wavey whose real name is Gabriel Sobers is a young talented singer/song writer from Barbados who wants to be known as one of the greatest artists of his generation. Lagoon has been singing for all his life and writes all his songs. For the last six (6) years famous Canadian singer/song writer/producer The Weeknd has served as an idol for Lagoon. The Weeknd’s music, work ethic, style and branding resonate with and inspires Lagoon. His work is also heavily influenced by artist such as Frank Ocean, Daniel Caeser, Lucky Daye, FKA Twigs, Kendrick Lamar, Moses Summey to name a few.
Additionally, Lagoon gains inspiration and pulls ideas for his music from personal experiences, surroundings, current affairs or the experiences of others. Lagoon differentiates himself from others do similar work by straying away from typical chord progressions or simple lyrics. Lagoon wants his listeners to know that the sound he provides is unique. Though Lagoon sees himself and music as a work in progress he is confident that the process is working as some musical experimentation which once gave him anxiety does not affect him as much any longer. Lagoon who is currently working on his first album entitled “Black Water” has been featured in most local newspapers in Barbados and also on Caribvoxx.
