Shaí Bascombe is a young artist from the small Island of Barbados with a big story to tell. Shaí believes he stands out among other artists as the voice for the voiceless. He also believes that his story is authentic, relatable, presents a diverse world view and brings comfort to the vulnerable. Shaí began his musical journey from around the age of 16 years while enrolled at the Barbados Community College. The commencement of this journey was influenced by his environment, his experiences and those of his friends and what he considers “the pollution” which is the “the chaos in his area (community). Shaí is also influenced by Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, Jugger, Travis Scott, School Boy, Kanya West, Wonder Gurl, EestBound, Dr. Dre, ThunderKa and many others. Of all the major influences, Shaí idolizes Kendrick Lamar. For the young singer/songwriter Kendrick’s narrative is remarkably similar to his.

They are both “good, well raised kids in a bad neighbourhood trying to navigate life while fighting the temptation to become part of the environment.” Shaí writes his own music; he has released three albums to date and is currently working on his fourth. Shaí’s work and music continues to gain recognition as he has been featured in places such as Barbados Today, Gine on Magazine, Devs Edge, INO podcast and Buss de Artist with Zen the Deejay. Shaí is ambitious and committed to the development of his music. His dream is to be recognized as one of the greatest Hip hop artists of all time. He also wants to be the first Male Bajan artist to be awarded an Oscar and a Grammy. Shaí wants for generations after him to use him and his as motivation saying to themselves “if Shaí is from Barbados and he did all of this so can I.”
